In today’s busy world, taking a little time to recharge is essential. For many of us, that means plopping on the sofa and watching Netflix.
If watching tv isn’t your preferred method of relaxation, why don’t you create a relaxation station in your home?
Many homeowners are transforming unused guest rooms, flex rooms, or even carving out some space in the basement into an area dedicated to helping them relax. If this is something you could get on board with, read on to get some ideas on creating a space dedicated to helping you unwind.
Meditation Room
Meditation is an excellent stress-reducing activity, and having an area dedicated entirely to cleansing your mind will make a huge difference to your overall well-being. This space doesn’t require much more than soundproofing, dimmable lighting, and a nice wooden floor.
If you like yoga, this space could double as a yoga studio. All you would need is a yoga mat and a full-length mirror to check your form.
Spa
If your schedule does not allow for regular spa visits, create a spa-like atmosphere in your home. Start with a soothing color to act as the base for your spa. We like tranquil blues and greens.
Next, you need a large soaking tub where you can sit comfortably. If you aren’t into soaking, we recommend removing the tub and installing a dry sauna. There are so many benefits to either option, but at the end of the day, they will decrease your stress levels.
Art Studio
Whether you’re into woodworking, pottery, or painting, creating an art studio where you can forget about the stress of everyday life and get creative is an excellent use for an extra space in your home.
Your art studio should be free of outside noise, so soundproofing the room is necessary. If the area has carpeting, you’ll probably want to switch it out for something easier to clean up in case of a spill.
You could do ceramic tile or something a little more unconventional, like stained concrete. This space could also have built-in cabinets to store your supplies and plenty of natural or overhead light so you can see your work in progress.
Don’t Forget the Kids!
Between having to keep their grades up, compete in sports, and the never-ending stress that is social media, kids are worn out too! How you set up a relaxation station for your kids depends on their ages.
If your kids are teenagers, you could take what used to be their playroom and turn it into something more mature, like a theater room complete with a big screen, dimmable lights, and comfy recliners. If they are into music, you could set up a music studio where they can play or listen to music as a way to relax.
If you have young kids, a space without overstimulating colors and toys will be a nice relief for them. You could install a sound system in the room to allow them to dance around or to act as background music while they color.
Get Outside
If your idea of relaxation is getting some fresh air, you could dedicate a space in your yard specifically for getting some time alone to clear your mind. This space should include plenty of greenery, like a big shady tree you could hang a hammock from or an area with plenty of potted plants and flowers and a comfy seating area.
To enhance the relaxation aspect, include a water feature like a fountain or a waterfall since the sound of running water is so peaceful.
