Home trends are constantly changing, but in the last few years, we have noticed a trend – functionality. Homeowners want spaces in their homes that look nice but also serve a purpose.

With that in mind, these are some popular home remodeling trends that we saw in 2022, and will likely continue in 2023.

Mudrooms

A place where everyone can drop their stuff off before entering the rest of the home has always been important. A mudroom is usually a room near your home’s garage or other entry points.

The mudroom can include:

  • A shoe rack
  • Lockers or cabinets to store purses and backpacks
  • A space for sporting equipment
  • A sink to wash your hands or to rinse dirty clothing
  • Your washer and dryer

Mudrooms became more popular during the peak of COVID when many people were using them to change their clothes before joining the rest of their families. Now, these spaces have become a staple in the home, and one of the most requested remodel trends of the year.

Large Windows

Homeowners want their homes to feel light and airy. The best way to achieve this is with natural light – and the best way to let natural light into your home is by installing large windows.

Huge picture windows that take up most of a wall are very in when it comes to the master bedroom and living room design. They open up the room to allow tons of light inside and can also act as a focal point.

Large windows can help any home design but are especially important if you have a beautiful view. Large windows can bring the outside in, so if you have a beautiful swimming pool or your home backs up to a pretty wooded area, the large windows will allow that scenery to be seen inside your home.

Spa Bathroom

Spa bathrooms have been a popular home remodeling trend for quite some time now, and we don’t think that will be changing anytime soon. Some key elements of a spa bathroom are a spacious walk-in shower, a large soaking tub, a tranquil color scheme, heated floors, and speakers that allow you to play your favorite soothing music while relaxing.

One popular home remodeling trend is a spa-like bathroom, seen here with soaking tub, walk-in shower, and beautiful custom tile

Built-In Storage

If one thing has gone out of style in 2022, it’s clutter. Homeowners want organized and clean spaces, which is why built-in storage has become very popular. Ways to incorporate built-in storage into your home is by installing cubby-style cabinets where your kids can keep their backpacks and shoes.

You could also install pull-out shelving into the pantry or kitchen so you can store items out of sight but still easy to access.

Multifunctional Room

Families are spending more time at home than they used to, which has shown that multifunctional spaces are crucial. A multifunctional room can serve as your home office but can easily transform into a guest room. Or, a space in the kitchen where your kids can do their homework while you prepare dinner.

The multifunctional room allows family members to converse with each other but can also have privacy if needed.
