“Our Family Working Together with Yours”
Our clients approached us with a small Cape Cod style home that was too small for their needs and required a lot of updating. They wanted the home's exterior to have curb appeal and they needed additional space for entertaining. When the remodel was complete, the house was twice the size of the original and as beautiful and inviting on the outside as it was on the inside.
To accomplish this, we extended the living room by adding an 8 ft. x 24 ft. addition to the back of the home. We removed the exterior load-bearing wall and installed an overhead I-beam to create an open, spacious living area. The wall that separated the tiny kitchen from the living room was also removed, and a second support beam was added. This enlarged the kitchen and allowed traffic to flow smoothly throughout the first floor public areas. The exposed beams create a charming rustic look that fits perfectly in the rural setting and makes the addition look like it’s a part of the original design.
The updated kitchen features gorgeous soapstone on the island and the countertops. The backsplash displays an interesting pattern of glass subway tile separated by metal pencil tile. Solid hardwood flooring throughout the kitchen and living room integrate the two spaces visually into one large open area.
We added a 22 ft. master suite addition to the first floor on the right side of the house to give the owners a private sanctuary. The vaulted ceiling in the bedroom increases the feeling of expansiveness and the spa-like bathroom includes both a soaker tub with a deck and a large shower.
Other enhancements include a new first floor laundry room and a fully renovated upstairs bathroom. Exterior improvements include a front portico to give the house more character, as well as new siding and roofing.
