4 Ideas to Make Over Your Laundry Room

We are willing to bet that laundry is pretty low on your “preferred ways to spend an afternoon” list. We don’t blame you! But that doesn’t mean that your laundry room should be neglected. Sprucing up your laundry area might trick you into enjoying washing and folding. Here are a few ideas on how to make your laundry room look its best.

Add Windows to Your Laundry Room

Adding windows is our solution to pretty much any of your home problems. Adding a window or two will open up the space and make your laundry room feel more spacious. Windows also add sunlight which is so beneficial to your health and well-being, even in an area that is not used for lengthy periods of time.

If a window is out of the question and you can do so, add a skylight. Overheard natural sunlight will boost your mood just as much as the sunlight from a window will. It may not improve the overall appearance of the space like a window would, but it will be a welcomed addition.

Install Cabinets

One reason the laundry room may feel like a space you’d rather avoid is all the clutter. One way to make the mess disappear is to install cabinets. Floor-to-ceiling cabinets would allow you to hide cleaning supplies like your broom and mop and other household necessities that get tossed into the laundry room.

No space for floor-to-ceiling cabinets? You can still get organized! Installing an upper or lower cabinet unit will provide space to put away laundry detergent and cleaning supplies. This practical solution will make your space appear cleaner, more spacious and won’t stress you out as much.

Get Colorful

The laundry room should have some personality, too. Adding color will instantly make your laundry room feel more like a room in your home, not just an oversized storage closet. Painting the space a bright, cheerful color will bring new life to the room. However, since the “moody” trend is in right now, you could choose a dark shade of blue or green to create a dark but interesting place. Pair those dark shades with marble counters for the folding table to make the space look elegant.

Wallpaper is another fantastic option for designing a space that is full of character. Your wallpaper can be a bright floral pattern, a mural, or something simple like a geometric pattern. Adding wallpaper to at least one wall will give the space a pretty base to design the rest of the area around.

Make More Space

Does your laundry room feel tiny? Ideally, we could add more space to it, but if that isn’t possible, we could get creative with the space you have. Purchasing a stackable washer and dryer is one way to open up more space for a sink or folding table.

Another idea is to put your appliances on pedestals or into a recessed space to open up a little more space, making the laundry room feel less cramped.
