4 Signs It’s Time to Remodel Your Kitchen

It's time to remodel - a flashlight shining into a dark kitchen

Kitchens are arguably the most important space in the house. Having a space that is functional for preparing meals, suitable for entertaining guests, and nice to look at can make your home feel like, well, home.

But eventually, your kitchen may start to make your home feel dated and inefficient. How do you know it’s time to remodel your kitchen? If any of these four signs sound familiar to you, you’re likely due for a remodel:

1. Your Kitchen Lighting Is So Dim That You Need To Cook With a Flashlight

Put that flashlight away! The kitchen is the heart of the home, so if your kitchen looks more like a dark cave than a bright, welcoming space, it might be time to remodel it. The best kitchen lighting is natural lighting, so if it’s possible to add a large window, you should! There are other options if there is no way to add a window.

Overhead kitchen lighting is a great way to add light to your kitchen. You can do canned lighting or a chandelier, or both! Adding a chandelier or pendant light also helps you create a focal point and add some style to your space. If you’re hoping to add a little drama to your kitchen, under-cabinet lighting will do the trick.

2. Your Kitchen Looks Like a Museum – But Not in a Good Way

Are your appliances so old that they could be part of a museum exhibit? Retro kitchens might be all the rage, but you need to upgrade those appliances at some point.

Not only does the appearance of sleek, new appliances completely transform a kitchen’s look, but they are also easier to use and more environmentally friendly.

Appliances have come a long way in the last few years. You’ll be blown away by how much easier these new appliances will make your life.

Some new refrigerators come equipped with Alexa and will read recipes to you or play your favorite show while you’re cooking. Some ovens are voice-activated and cook your food more quickly than the old oven you might have in your home now.

3. Your Kitchen Countertops Are So Cluttered That You Can’t Find Space to Prepare a Meal

Maybe you have too much stuff, and you should take some time to get rid of things you don’t need. Or maybe, your kitchen doesn’t have enough storage.

When it’s time to remodel your kitchen, adding more storage and counter space should be pretty high on your must-have list.

Finding space to build a pantry will give you more space for pots, pans, food, small appliances, and anything else that may be taking over your countertops, allowing them to be free of clutter and ready to make a meal on.

4. You Have to Plug Your Ears to Drown Out The Squeaky Kitchen Cabinets

Do your loud, squeaky cabinets wake up the family when you’re trying to get a midnight snack? It’s probably time for a remodel. New cabinets in your newly remodeled kitchen will remedy that problem.

Shaker-style cabinet doors are really popular at the moment and are incredibly versatile. However, you really can’t go wrong with any style or color cabinet – as long as they store your belongings without making too much noise, that is. Did we just describe your kitchen?
