We remodel a lot of homes, and not all of them have the goal of creating a “forever home.” Many clients know they will be moving in the near future but still want a remodel they can enjoy for the time being, which is entirely doable!
If you want to remodel for resale, our approach may need to be slightly different, but it certainly can be done. Let’s look at some ways to remodel your home while keeping resale value in mind.
Kitchen Remodel for Resale
Ask your favorite Realtor, and they’ll tell you “kitchens sell homes.” A kitchen remodel is the best way to increase your home’s value. Today’s homebuyers like big, bright kitchens with space for all their friends and family.
If you’re remodeling a kitchen with resale value in mind, it’s best to go with a safe, traditional design. You won’t want anything too over the top. Neutral toned cabinets, a simple backsplash, and granite or marble countertops will make the kitchen look nicely updated but won’t scare away a homebuyer.
You’ll also want to make sure your kitchen remodel includes plenty of storage space since that is another area that stands out to home buyers.
Create a Master Suite
A remodel you can enjoy that will also add value to your home is a luxury master bedroom retreat. Ideally, this space will have enough room for a king-sized bed plus a seating area. Ideally, it will have an updated spa-like bathroom and walk-in closet attached to it.
Your master suite could include doors that lead to your backyard or a deck that allow you to sip your morning coffee. It could also include a fireplace to create a cozy and romantic ambiance where you could relax after a long day.
The master suite cannot be complete with a spa-like bathroom complete with a soaking tub and large walk-in shower. Experts say the best paint color for the master bathroom is a tranquil shade of green or a light blue, so it is a good idea to include those in your design.
Add a Deck
Outdoor living is a huge selling feature of a home. Adding or upgrading your deck will help your home stand out when it comes time to sell.
We like to create a deck space that can include areas for entertaining, an outdoor kitchen area, and a seating area where you can unwind. The best part, when you sell your home, you can expect to recoup about 80-85% of the remodel costs. Not too shabby!
Make Your Home More Welcoming
Don’t overlook the importance of your front door and entry area. Upgrading your door will increase your home’s value and will add to its curb appeal.
We could also replace your home’s siding or fix up any chipped or outdated paint that might not make your home look its best.
