How You Can Have A More “Earthy Home”

One of 2022’s most prominent home design trends was incorporating natural elements into your home to give it a warm, earthy feel. A home with fewer man-made products and more natural elements creates a warm, inviting, and calming space.

Since it looks like the natural home trend is here to stay, we put together a list of our favorite ways to bring the outdoors in and create a warm, natural space within your home.

Natural Stone Flooring

When designing a home, sometimes it’s easiest to start from the floor and work your way up. That’s why including natural stone flooring makes for a great starting point when creating an earthy home.

Natural stone flooring will make your space look more interesting and modern and can be used in any room of the house, including your shower.

If you’re looking for other ways to include natural stone like travertine, slate, or marble in your home, you could use them for a backsplash in the kitchen or even an accent wall in another space. The natural stone will add texture to your home and make it feel warm and cozy.

Floor-to-ceiling windows in living room with minimal sofa and wood flooring create an earthy home feel.

Big Windows

The easiest way to bring the outdoors in is to install more windows. Better yet, install oversized windows that take up most of your wall space. The bonus is that since your windows take up so much, you won’t have as many décor choices to make since you won’t have as much wall space to work with.

Large windows work in any room of the house, be it the living room, bedroom, kitchen, or office. They increase the natural light, which will boost your mood and can help you wake up in the morning and improve your sleep quality at night. When the weather allows, you can open the windows, let the fresh air in, and intensify those benefits.

Natural Wood

We love including natural wood in the home – especially in the kitchen. Choosing a raw, live edge slab of wood over granite or marble for a kitchen island is a great way to incorporate the earthy home trend into your kitchen. The wood slab is incredibly versatile and can work with various styles depending on what cabinets and finishes you pair with it.

Water Features

For a more luxurious upgrade, add a water feature to your home. This doesn’t have to be anything large, but a small fountain or waterfall will make the space more exciting and maximize the earthy home trend you are going for.

There is nothing more peaceful and calming than the sound of water, so adding a water feature to your master bedroom or spa-like bathroom will be a welcomed addition. Water features in your entryway can help you transition from outdoors to in and will give you an immediate sense of calm as you enter your home.

Green plants in indoor garden makes your earthy home more alive.

Plants

If you’ve added all of these features to your home but still don’t feel like it’s earthy enough – add plants. Having a mix of permanent greenery and fresh flowers that you update every week or so will give life to your space and make it more connected to nature. If you’re worried your indoor plants won’t survive, ask your local nursery for some beginner-friendly suggestions.
